Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Deborah Balogh accepted a position at the University of Indianapolis starting June 15. Balogh was named interim provost in June 2005. After 10 months, six open forums and two searches, Ball State University President Jo Ann Gora named Terry King as provost on Thursday. Gora said she chose King, the dean of the College of Engineering at Kansas State University, because of his experience in several areas including developing external partnerships, working on strategic plans and communicating across colleges.

Dear Editor, It was unfortunate to read about the incident on Monday in which the police asked a group of Ball State University students to take down their banner. While the police might have been technically within their rights in asking for the removal, we should be asking ourselves why these rules exist on campus in the first place.

Nine months after its establishment, Rainbow Cathedral, the first gay-oriented church in Muncie, had cancelled its service for the first time last Sunday. After the recent resignation of the pastor, Rainbow Cathedral's congregation has dropped from 15 to 20 regular members to only four, including a member who has been substituting as pastor while the cathedral is looking for a new alternative lifestyle minister.
