SOFTBALL: Disappointed Cards split four games

The Ball State University softball team split its four games this weekend at the Iowa Hawkeye Classic.

On the first day, the Cardinals (6-10) snapped its four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over South Dakota State and followed that up with a 3-0 defeat of Loyola .

The victory against Loyola marked the first shutout for the Cardinals this season. It was also the first time Ball State coach Terri Laux coached against her former school since leaving in 1996.

On Sunday Ball State's bats were silenced as they only managed four hits and zero runs in losses to North Dakota State and Iowa.

"The coaching staff and players are disappointed," Laux said. "We did not play well and give ourselves a chance to win. We have to find a way to be offensively consistent if we are going to be successful this year."
