BASEBALL: Chippewas take divison title

The Ball State University baseball team went into this weekend's series against Central Michigan University with a chance to win the Mid-American Conference West division, but that title went to the Chippewas as they took two of the three games in the series.

'Perspective' to win gold or silver at Student Academy Awards, as Ball State's second film to receive the national honor

Two Ball State University students are in the running for a Student Academy Award, following in the footsteps of a fellow telecommunications student. Travis Hatfield and Samuel Day, both telecommunications students, will travel to Los Angeles on June 10 to find out if their short film "Perspective" will win either a gold or silver Student Academy Award in the alternative film category.

Mediasite broadcasts sources

Ball State University students staying home for the summer can now take classes as if they were still on campus thanks to new technology. The School of Extended Education, the Teleplex and the Office of Teaching and Learning Advancement have joined to offer a different form of Internet classes using Mediasite.

Online services to shut down temporarily

Ball State University Internet access, Web sites and Webmail will be unavailable from midnight Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday. University Computing Services must shut these services down to complete an infrastructure upgrade in its system.

More high school graduates are coming to college without the basic skills they need, according to an Indiana University study. Each year, more college students are signing up for remedial classes - basic-skills courses designed to help prepare students to succeed at the level required by most college classes.

The university does not, however, offer students an easy way through. A recent study conducted by Indiana University showed more college freshmen are entering college without the skills they need to succeed.

The Ball State University baseball team enters Thursday's three-game series with a chance to win the Mid-American Conference West division. The Cardinals play Central Michigan University at 3 p.m. on Thursday, and 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The winner of the three-game series will be crowned MAC West champion.

I sent my iBook to the Apple doctor a few days ago. It was sad to see him shipped off in the brown box the UPS man gave me, but he needed to be fixed - thanks to the nitwits working airport security at the Air Canada terminal in Toronto. I had an amazing week in Toronto, where I met tons of people only familiar to me through the Internet.

Summer brings construction projects to campus

The first week of construction on Ball State University's campus went a little slower than expected, Jim Lowe, director of engineering and operations, said. "Mother nature wasn't good to us," he said. Despite the rain, construction for phase two of the McKinley project, as well as several other projects, began last week.

Construction on dining hall begins

Construction on Woodworth Commons, Woodworth Complex's dining hall, is slated to begin this summer, ultimately creating new dining choices and removing stress from existing facilities, Jonathan Lewis, director of Dining Services, said. "[Woodworth] was dated and needed an upgrade," Lewis said.
