N*W*C to perform for Unity Week

As part of Unity Week Ball State University students and faculty can attend N*W*C at 6:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall. N*W*C Coordinator Danielle Pye said she wanted to bring the event to a predominately white campus in a predominately white city because this is one way students can get exposure to other cultures.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards try to build back up at home

Ball State University's men's basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season, a 26-point loss at the hands of Western Michigan University on Wednesday night. The team's coach, Billy Taylor, said his team didn't respond well to its first league win and the team's captains, Peyton Stovall and Anthony Newell, blamed themselves for the defeat, despite 31 combined points.

After opening its season at home, the Ball State University women's track and field team travels to Bowling Green, Ohio today for the Bowling Green Quadrangular. The Cardinals will compete against several regional teams, including the University of Cincinnati.

The Ball State University men's volleyball team didn't have to wait long to get another chance at defeating a top-five ranked team. When the Ball State University and Illinois State University women's swimming and diving teams meet Saturday, it will be a chance to see which one has improved the most since the beginning of the season. GYMNASTICS: New era begins for Ball State

The first home competition for Ball State University's gymnastics team in the Nadalie Walsh era is tonight as they play host to Illinois State University in Irving Gym at 6 p.m. Walsh said she spent the last few months trying to change the mentality of a program that has not had a winning record since 2002.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Bronco beatdown

Western Michigan University used seven straight points to end the first half to spark it to a 71-45 win against Ball State University Wednesday night, evening the all-time series between the two teams at 53 wins apiece. The 45 points ties Ball State's lowest point total of the season.

Faculty share offices

Piles of books and desks bumped together are not necessarily what it is like for faculty who work in close quarters because they share offices, according to some Ball State University professors. Robin Hicks, anthropology instructor, said some faculty share offices because those who teach in a prison education program are also teaching one class per month on campus and need an office space.

Counseling Center expands therapy service

The Ball State University Counseling Center is trying to create a new avenue for male survivors of sexual assault. Lee Van Donselaar, sexual assault team coordinator, said the center will offer a weekly group therapy session for men if enough students express interest.

Ball State The MAC coaches predicted Ball State and Western Michigan to win the conference's men's tennis championship this year. The Cardinals and Broncos tied for first place in the vote, though Ball State received three votes to win the conference tournament while Western Michigan received one.

Old phones to be collected for less fortunate

Members of Alpha Chi Omega service fraternity will continue to collect old cell phones for the organization's "phoneraiser" 9 a.m. to noon Thursday in the Whitinger Business Building. Approximately 20 members of Alpha Phi Omega spent Wednesday morning and afternoon collecting used cell phones in the Atrium.

Beautiful, immersive, innovative, creative and vibrant are words that Ball State University's Web site, commercials and pamphlets use multiple times to describe its campus experience. And potential students have taken notice. The current marketing campaign has helped increase undergraduate applications for the 2008-2009 academic year to more than 10,000 at the end of December, Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Ball State's limited offense leads to loss Wednesday night

With the band chanting, "We're not gonna take it," Ball State University senior point guard Peyton Stovall connected on a meaningless layup off an offensive rebound with 2:03 remaining in Wednesday night's game. The bucket, which pulled Ball State within 22 points of Western Michigan University, did prevent the Cardinals from setting a bit of history, however.

Some faculty experience difficulty finding costs before assigning textbooks

Glossy, colorful brochures advertising maps and graphs in textbooks often leave professors digging for what many are concerned about - prices. Frederick Suppe, Ball State University associate professor of history, said he tries to find the cheapest textbooks for his students, but it is often difficult because publishers do not include prices in the advertisements.

Senators approve elections board

Election season is gearing up as the Ball State University Student Government Association approved the 2008 elections board in its Wednesday meeting. Elections board Chairman Kyle Johnson said the board's job was to make sure the SGA elections go smoothly, fairly and the slates follow the bylaws.
