OUR VIEW: Student's slate, please?

SGA needs new leaders with new ideas, create your own slate

The elections board has been set; now all we need are slates.

Student Government Association slates that is.

U.N.I.T.E.D. Initiative spent the year being the voice of the students and passing resolutions to extend Blue Loop hours, to establish a Multicultural Council and to establish an All-President Student Forum.

Now it's time for a new group of students to stand up and change Ball State University's campus. Slates are announced at the SGA Nomination Convention that occurs the second week in February.

For those lacking a calendar, that is less than one month away. Students who think they could change the university to further benefit the students should not waste any time in assembling a slate of potential running mates.

The only requirements needed to run are a petition with 400 signatures, a 2.7 group-cumulative GPA and hypothetically at least one person who knows the innerworkings of SGA to ensure success once in office.

If you don't happen to know anyone who is currently involved in SGA, go to the meetings Wednesdays at 3:15 p.m. in Cardinal Hall B; the meetings are open to the public. At least one person has to be interested in running on a slate.

And if not, we're in a heap of trouble.

Students living in residence halls could rally together and campaign for improved living environments or the abolishment of quiet hours. The sky is the limit at a public university as the head of a government organization.

Any student is eligible to run for SGA: whether in a fraternity, sorority, on-campus resident or off-campus resident. All you need is running mates and a desire to make a difference.

This is your chance to try and change what you've been complaining about; this is your chance to leave a mark on Ball State's campus.

U.N.I.T.E.D. is moving on and leaving the responsibility in your hands.
