For most football fans, including myself, the name John Madden is synonymous with his yearly football video game. I can still remember Christmas of 2008, ripping open a present revealing Madden NFL 09 for the Nintendo Wii, with Brett Farve of the Green Bay Packers on the cover. Thanks to John Madden, I fell in love with the game of football. But Madden should be remembered not just for his contributions to virtual football, but to the entire game itself.
The Cardinals’ mantra for 2021 was to “Run it back” following the previous year’s success. But as head coach Mike Neu said following the Cardinals’ 51-20 loss against Georgia State in the Camellia Bowl, success is hard to replicate.

The Cardinals were led by Clephane, who scored a career-high 26 points. Senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir chipped in 18 points.
Four Cardinals scored in double-figures against the Cougars, including junior guard Tyler Cochran, who scored a team-high 19 points. Thomas scored 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting, while junior guard Luke Bumbalough and freshman center Payton Sparks each finished with 12 points. Sparks grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior Sydney Freeman and redshirt junior Anna Clephane paced the Cardinals with 16 points each, while senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir scored 12 points. Bischoff and freshman Marie Kiefer recorded 11 points. Kiefer also led Ball State in steals with three. Freshman Ally Becki totaled eight assists and seven rebounds, both team-highs.

While each of these students have different stories and they participate in different sports, they all have one thing in common. Through planning for the future and putting themselves out there, these individual Cardinals have given themselves a starting point on the path to their future.
