Charities benefit from spooky event

A Ball State University fraternity and sorority are frightening people as a way to raise money for charity. Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity President Michael Zolezzi said the organization converted its basement into its annual haunted house, which it is running in a partnership with Kappa Delta sorority.

MEN'S GOLF: Cardinals crumbling

The Ball State University men's golf team is in 16th place out of 18 teams at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. The Cardinals have a team-combined score of 601, 24 strokes behind first place University of Denver. After two rounds of the 54-hole tournament, sophomore Eric Steger leads all Cardinals with an individual score of 145.

Beating victim's friend testifies

Stories of a philandering boyfriend, highway car chases and "psycho stalking" emerged Monday during a sentencing hearing for a former Ball State University student who pleaded guilty to charges of beating an Ivy Tech student at a party last year. Atypical youth vote issues discussed

When Jonah Goldberg and Peter Beinart clashed in debate Monday night in Pruis Hall, a room of more than 100 people felt the aftermath. The event, "Reds vs. Blues: The State of Choosing Our Next President," was sponsored by Education In Leadership and pitted two ideologically opposite journalists against each other in a debate about youth issues.

Fundraiser off to good start

After the first day of its eight-day online auction, the Cardinal Varsity Club has gained $2,000 for the Ball State University athletics department. As of 11 p.m. Monday, 40 of the auction's 111 items had received at least one bid, with the bids totaling $2,000.

FOOTBALL: Letterman says Cards can win national championship

With four games remaining in the No. 16 Ball State University football team's schedule, a famous alumnus already knows where the team will be at the end of the season: in a BCS bowl game. On his CBS television show "The Late Show with David Letterman" Monday, Letterman said that with the way the college football season has gone Ball State could win the national championship.

Appeals court case to be in Pruis today

The Indiana Court of Appeals will offer students an opportunity to see a real court hearing at 2 p.m. today in Pruis Hall. A panel of three judges will hear oral arguments in the case of Melissa Christian v. the State of Indiana. Christian, who was arrested May 13, 2007, for public intoxication, is appealing her case on the basis she was not in a "public place" at the time of the arrest.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards send the MAC a message

It was a sweet two-hour bus ride home for the Ball State University women's volleyball team following Saturday night's 3-2 upset against the reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Miami University. Following last season's 5-25 overall record and 4-12 performance in MAC play, one would probably expect this year's squad with 10 newcomers to be an improvement.

Leaving for the Indianapolis International Airport earlier this week, coach Katherine Mowat thought her team would be able to win the Pat Bradley Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla. After the first two rounds, though, she said she now is hoping the Ball State University women's golf team can end its fall season with one good round.

FOOTBALL: Davis does it all in victory against the Eagles

Through the hundreds of offensive plays called this season for Ball State University, there was one in particular quarterback Nate Davis had been waiting for. The play was finally called Saturday against Eastern Michigan University on Saturday. With Ball State leading 3-0 and fewer than three minutes in the second quarter, the Cardinals had a prime opportunity to get a touchdown before halftime.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Upset alert: Cards beat 1st-place MU

Leading 14-12 in the fifth set Saturday night against Miami University, the Ball State University women's volleyball team found itself with match point for the second straight night. In Friday night's five-set loss to Bowling Green State University, the Cardinals saw three match point opportunities crumble as the Falcons stormed back to take the match.

Student arrested in connection with Friday shooting

Muncie Police arrested a Ball State University student in connection with the Friday shooting of three people - two of whom Ball State students. According to the Delaware County Jail, senior Izes Cross is being held without bond after he was arrested Monday evening on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, aggrevated battery and confinement.
