MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State drops out of national rankings

With the start of Mid-American Conference play this weekend, the Cardinals have a chance to prove they belong at the top of the conference standings. After losing three of their last five matches, the Ball State University men's tennis team dropped out of the rankings this week for the first time all season.

Administration to crack down on Facebook profiles

In the past few weeks, administrators in the Ball State University athletic department have asked student-athletes to clean up their Facebook profiles or to get rid of them entirely. While coaches feel it's the right thing to do, player reaction has been mixed. Earlier this month, coaches at Ball State University were contacted by athletic administrators and asked to deal with the issue.

BASEBALL: Clutch hitting gives Ball State fourth straight win

Defensive and pitching miscues by Purdue University and some timely hitting by the Ball State University offense delivered the fourth win in a row for the Cardinals in a 3-2 victory over the Boilermakers.-á Down 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, the Cardinals (11-11) evened the score with two runs.

Classic musical comes to University Theater

Vaudevillian music and scantily clad men and women will fill the John R. Emens Auditorium tonight, with the opening performance of "Cabaret." The classic musical is set in 1930 in Berlin before Adolf Hitler's rise to power. It begins with writer Cliff Bradshaw (freshman Curtis Becht) remembering the time he spent in Berlin, specifically in the Kit Kat Club, a night club host to decadence of all kinds.

If joining one of the strongest divisions in the nation, becoming eligible for post-season play and doubling its annual income wasn't enough, the Ball State University men's lacrosse club is taking another step toward gaining bigger exposure and more recruits.

George Mason's improbable run to the Final Four hopefully opens the door for more mid-major schools to be included in the tournament, but Ball State University shouldn't count on it. -á Instead, the athletic department and whoever is named the new men's basketball coach ought to take the same approach as before - win the conference tournament for a guaranteed birth.

Speaker shares advice on self-publishing books

Getting a book published is as easy as just "getting around to it" said a self-published author and business owner to more than 35 students and faculty members at the L.A. Pittenger Student Center on Wednesday night. Life long Indiana resident Delores Thornton is now a successful self-published writer and business owner who attributes her accomplishments to hard work and a lot of research.

University Senate says no more Saturday Finals

Starting during the 2007-2008 academic year, students will no longer have Saturday finals. University Senate approved the legislation that would remove Saturday finals from the academic calendar. LETTERS: Television modeling show promotes confidence in women, not obesity

Dear Editor, I am writing in concern of a recent Forum opinion column, "Celebs Shouldn't Put Obesity in Positive Light," which caught my undivided attention. Senators cut meetings to save time

Time to discuss student concerns was cut during Wednesday's Student Government Association meeting because special orders of business took time and priority. As the clock neared 5 p.m., senators approved the elimination of caucus meetings, cut committee meetings down to five minutes and skipped all committee reports except for Student Safety because it had legislation to read.

Electronic Field Trip program wins Telly Awards

Ball State University's Electronic Field Trip program added more glamour to its already impressive resum+â-¬. The program, created by the Teachers College in 1996, recently received six more Telly Awards for last year's programs.

Students love things that are open 24 hours a day - see: Wal-Mart and IHOP. As of November, Bursar accounts have been added to that prestigious list through Cardinal QuickPay. With the rising cost of postage and increasing expectation that students will be digitally savvy, Ball State's move away from paper bills simply makes sense.
