Muncie is becoming a "Main Street" community

Muncie is one of 21 cities to be recognized this year as an Indiana Main Street community.Being a Main Street community means Muncie will receive economic help for the restoration of historical areas of the city and the opportunity to network with other communities in the program.

SGA spirit award goes to freshman

The Student Government Association announced freshman Corey Vanbuskirk as the winner of its "Write in to Win" contest.Students who entered the contest wrote about why they have the most school spirit. Vanbuskirk's essay beat several other entries to win the prize of watching Ball State University's final home football game against Central Michigan University in the presidential suite with Ball State President Jo Ann Gora.

Onstage with an actor's nightmare

Audience members finally get to see theater from a different angle: backstage.Opening Thursday at University Theatre, "Noises Off" follows a theater group from dress rehearsal to the final show as it puts on a production of "Nothing On." Each act shows the performance at a different stage in its production run as things constantly go unplanned.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Host Ball State sweeps Toledo

The Cardinals (13-15, 6-9 MAC) were led on offense by sophomore Kelsey Brandl's match-high 14 kills. Junior outside hitter Hannah Sullivan had 13 kills, while senior Alisha Green added 12 kills in her final regular season home match.Defensively for Ball State, junior libero Alyssa Rio had a match-best 23 digs.

International displays in Bracken

Ball State University's Rinker Center for International Programs is hosting the annual International Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in Bracken Library.The festival has been at Ball State for more than 50 years and this year will have between 25 and 30 countries represented, Mindy Ward, graduate assistant to the events coordinator at the Rinker Center, said.

Ball State University students in the College of Architecture and Planning are getting out of the studio today.The college is hosting a talent show at 5 p.m. Friday in Architecture Building Room 100.

'Coal Country' to shine light on industry dangers

The Ball State University Students for a Sustainable Campus will show a documentary about how coal mining practices affect the United States' Appalachia region tonight."Coal Country" will start at 7 p.m. in Teachers College Room 102, followed by a discussion about the film.

A report by Ball State University found that the Cash for Clunkers program created a spike in auto sales during the second half of this year.

Remembering their service

Brandon Forte, a sniper with 40th Cav, 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, was 300 meters away from Ford Observation Base one night at an 8 p.m. house raid when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded five feet away from where he was walking.

Veterans Affairs office fosters bonding, financial support

Beck Hannaford was never a military veteran. But in his role as the veterans benefits/financial assistant coordinator on campus, he has found his own way to serve with the help of 10 campus partners that work one-on-one with veterans.For Hannaford, developing relationships with  around 340 veterans and children of veterans on campus this semester is the most rewarding part of his job.
