Students have a chance to rename the Ball State University news oragnization NewsLink@9. The "Name Your News" contest allows students to submit suggestions for the television broadcast, which occurs at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the Fall and Spring semesters.

MEN'S TENNIS: MAC champion Ball State has first-round bye

With the start of the Mid-American Conference Tournament scheduled to begin today in Toledo, Ohio, the Cardinals will have to wait to see who their opponent will be. The No. 1 seeded Ball State University men's tennis team (18-6, 5-0 MAC) will face the winner of the University at Buffalo and Northern Illinois University at 10 a.

BASEBALL: Blooper single sparks BSU rally

Miscommunication by Butler University's defense allowed Ball State University to take control in the bottom of the third inning. Three Bulldog defenders allowed a fly ball hit by second baseman Kyle Dygert to drop in shallow right center field, allowing first baseman Brad Miller to tie the game, 3-3.

An Ipsos Poll released last week suggests that Americans believe the U.S. tax system is "unfair." The poll reported that many feel the rich do not pay enough, leaving the tax burden on middle- and even lower-class families and workers. No one likes to pay taxes, but is it unfair? Last I checked, the rich paid most of the taxes here in the United States.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards hope third time's a charm in MIVA semifinal against IPFW

The No. 14 Ball State University men's volleyball team is looking for some charm as it will play No. 10 Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne for the third time this season. The Cardinals will play in Loyola University Chicago's Alumni Gym today in the semifinal round of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association tournament.

TRACK: Team splits, travels to separate relays

The Ball State University women's track and field team split up the team for the final time this weekend. Half the track and field squad travels to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays while the other heads north to Hillsdale, Mich. for the Hillsdale Relays.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals embrace role as underdogs in tourney

Ball State University's first opponent of the Mid-American Conference Tournament is not a team the Cardinals normally like to see. That opponent, Miami University, has slapped the Cardinals around quite a bit. The Redhawks have won 11 straight matches, and 29 of the last 30.

Freshman suspected of dealing ecstasy

A Ball State University freshman could face more than 20 years in prison after he was arrested on suspicion of selling ecstasy to an undercover drug agent, police said Wednesday. Andrew Lascano remained in jail Wednesday after he was arrested Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation, officials said.

Gora names Albion College official as vice president of advancement

While Ball State University worked to raise about $13.6 million, surpassing the original goal of $12 million, to make improvements to the football stadium, Vice President of University Advancement Don Park was the man behind the scenes. However, Park will be retiring this June after a total of 25 years of service to Ball State, and on Wednesday, President Jo Ann Gora named Ben Hancock as his replacement.

UCS discovers security problem with passwords

University Computing Services discovered a security problem with Ball State's Interlibrary Loan Request System this week and recommend concerned students change their school passwords. During a normal review of Web sites hosted by Ball State, UCS found that, for milliseconds, user names and passwords were passed to the company that runs ILLiad for user authentication, O'Neal Smitherman, vice president of information technology said.

Ronny Thompson's new job as Ball State University's men's basketball coach has proven to be quite time consuming. During his four weeks at the helm of the program, Thompson has been rushing around the country in search of coaches to fill up his staff and players to join his roster.

Just as Ball State University prepares to begin phase two of the McKinley Project, it is being honored with two awards for the design and quality of phase one. The American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana awarded Ball State the 2006 Engineering Excellence Merit Award.

Student Government Association President Asher Lisec gets questions continually about where students' dining money goes when they don't use their meal cards. The answer lies not only in dining facility expenses but also in a housing and dining surplus account that has almost doubled since July 1, 2003.
