'Red Dead' returning?

by Cailin Reedy Rockstar Games released an image on Twitter early Monday that may hint at a new Red Dead title. A day earlier, the company had also tweeted a picture of their logo set against a Red Dead-red background. The tweets come after years of speculation about a new game, as well as rumors about potential plots and setting. In April, a map apparently showing the upcoming game’s locations was leaked by someone reported to be “close to the development of the new Red Dead game,” according to TechRadar. A Reddit user under the username 'AnonDN1978' stated that the sequel game would be called Red Dead Redemption: Legends of the West, and that it would be set a decade before Redemption. The user stated that former NPCs Seth and Irish, a grave robber and a drunkard, would be the player characters, and a third customizable character would act as their go-between. With the most recent developments, some of these rumors seem to carry weight. The Rockstar logo photo was released Oct. 16, the day formerly rumored to be the release date of a new game. The purported leak of a new map also lends credence to the rumor of a much larger sandbox area, as well as speculation that the game would be a prequel, as no railroad tracks are marked on the map where they existed in Redemption. The latest image, released today, also visually references the recent remake of The Magnificent Seven starring Denzel Washington. And with the recent remake of Westworld as an HBO series, it looks like westerns – and potentially the Red Dead series – might be experiencing a renaissance.
