MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: IPFW clinches No. 5 seed in MIVA Tournament

IPFW defeated Quincy University 30-20, 30-27, 24-30, 30-26 on Saturday in Quincy, Illinois, to clinch the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament.

Entering the final weekend of the regular season tied with Quincy for the No. 5 seed, IPFW won both matches in its two-match series against Quincy this weekend. In addition to the four-game victory, the Mastodons swept the Hawks on Friday.

As the No. 5 seed, IPFW (12-16, 4-8 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) will play a road match against the No. 4 seed in the MIVA Tournament quarterfinals on April 24.

No. 15 Ball State University will be the No. 4 seed.

In their two regular season matches, Ball State defeated IPFW in five games in February at Worthen Arena and swept IPFW in April at Fort Wayne.

This is the third consecutive season the Mastodons will be the No. 5 seed in the MIVA Tournament. IPFW has not advanced beyond the conference quarterfinals since advancing to the NCAA championship match in 2007.

The last time Ball State played IPFW in the MIVA Tournament was in the 2006 semifinals when the Mastodons won in five games.

With Saturday's loss, Quincy (15-17, 2-10 MIVA) will be the No. 6 seed and will play the No. 3 seed on the road in the MIVA Tournament quarterfinals.
