SOFTBALL: Nicholson hired as new coach

Craig Nicholson has been named the head softball coach at Ball State University, replacing Terri Laux, whose contract was not renewed earlier this summer.

Nicholson has coached Central Arizona College to four National Junior College Athletic Association National Championships in 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2005 plus national runner-up finishes in 1996 and 2000.

Nicholson compiled a 723-90 overall head coaching record in 11 years at Central Arizona.

Nicholson was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year in 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2005 plus was the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Junior College Coach of the Year in 1997, 1999 and 2005.

He is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. Nicholson earned his master's degree in sport science from the United States Sports Academy.
