Students get help in housing search

Apartment managers provide information at housing expo

Students can find information about off-campus housing opportunities at the Student Housing Expo today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lobby of Pruis Hall. Every major apartment community serving the Ball State University community will have a booth during the expo, Jack Colwell, Student Housing Expo chairman of the Residential Property Management Association, said.Representatives from the University Area Landlord Association will also have a booth and will be available to speak with students about its available properties. An insurance agency representative will discuss renters' insurance with students at its booth.Colwell said the Residential Property Management Association sponsors the expo as a service to students."It's to help them find a place to live and compare different options in one place," he said.Free Carter's hotdogs will be provided by American Collegiate communities. Students can also meet Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and register to win door prizes including an iPod and a $100 Simon Mall gift card, Colwell said.John Connor, attorney with Ball State's Student Legal Services, will speak at 5 p.m. in Pruis Hall about renters' rights and responsibilities. His presentation will inform students of important information to consider prior to signing off-campus leases, Connor said. He will also let students know about what services provided by Student Legal Services students can take advantage of.To attend Connor's presentation, students will be required to present their IDs.
