LETTER: Money better spent if put toward residence halls

Dear Editor,

This letter is a response to the article 'Campus in need of student center.' After reading the article, I came to the conclusion that this whole idea is not a smart one. Ball State is suppose to be a place to find "everything you need," but is it really a student center? I've been here for about two years, and I can tell you what this campus needs, and it's not a student center. The dorms at LaFollette are in terrible shape, yet I don't see people running down the street half naked demanding new dorms. What I do see is a terrible idea in the making. I live at LaFollette, and once every week I see two of the toilets overflow with foam water leaving a large puddle around the other toilets.

Another reason for building a dorm instead of a student center is to deal with the overcrowding that is plaguing this campus. I've talked with many students that believe overcrowding is more of an issue than a new student center. Another question that is raised is "Where would they build it?" They can build it wherever they want, they might as well build it in a landfill because that is were their money will end up: going to waste. An idea that might be much better is making a new building for the foreign languages instead of grouping more than two department majors into one building. Then there would more rooms for more classes. What a riveting idea.
