SOCCER: Cardinals split weekend

Overtime win Friday followed by 1-0 loss Sunday to Kent State

Dee Nocero took her time Friday—almost too much time.

With 25 seconds left in the second overtime, Nocero took a passfrom Amy Holst and sent Buffalo fans home, carrying the weight of a2-1 loss on their minds. The goal was Nocero's first since Sept. 12when she scored two goals at Terre Haute against Indiana State.

Head coach Ron Rainey said getting out to a good start on theweekends is important.

"It's huge when you win that Friday game," he said. "It's anawesome feeling. You start getting greedy, and you want to sweepthe weekend."

Ball State fell into a one goal deficit in the 59th minute whenEmily Russell, the Bulls' leading scorer, netted a goal. Amy Holst, who leads the team in points, scored the first goal for theCardinals in the 80th minute of the match to knot the game at1-1.

The Bulls tallied 10 shots in the first half of the match, butforced Megan Swafford to make one save.

The Cardinals fell 1-0 against Kent State on Sunday, but theteam played well, Rainey said.

Once again, Swafford left the game at halftime after shuttingout the opposition, and Alison Becker came into the game andallowed a goal. Friday the offense bounced back with two goals, butSunday the offense was held in check. Becker allowed the goal with12 minutes left in the second half.

Rainey said that his team did a good job of putting itself intoa position to win the game by possessing the ball longer andgetting solid scoring chances.
