Muncie Sanitary District says flooding just part of their day

As Muncie slowly fills with water, Wiley Flak and Randy Wright of the Muncie Sanitary District, carefully drive their truck through the streets to help residents. They walk past the wound-up hoses and equipment on their truck to grab two rakes and begin wading to where they assume the sidewalk is, scraping the build up out of the storm drains. Whenever Muncie gets high waters from rain, Wright and Flak wade through the knee-deep streets.

Alumna to appear on Friday's episode of 'Shark Tank'

A Ball State alumna will appear on Friday’s episode of “Shark Tank” to pitch her product to the millionaire and billionaire “sharks.” Courtney Turich, a 2000 Ball State graduate, and Christie Barany, her business partner, will try to sell the idea of their Monkey Mat to the self-made, multi-millionaires and billionaires on the ABC reality TV show to gain the tycoons as sponsors.

SGA asks for changes to course evaluations, grade release

A bill debuted Wednesday in the Student Government Association Senate could ask the university to change its policy regarding teacher evaluations and grades. The resolution requests the university to stop withholding grades unless students complete their course evaluations.

Ball State chef receives regional cooking competition award

A Ball State chef received an award Wednesday for his performance in a regional cooking competition last month. Chef Cameron Griggs won the bronze medal in the 2014 Midwest Region Culinary Challenge. The event, which was March 3 at Michigan State, featured nine chefs from colleges around the Midwest.

Ball State sees no damage reports from ‘Humans vs. Zombies’ game

Despite 189 students swarming campus late at night with plastic weaponry, campus safety officials say they had not received any complaints during the Urban Games League’s biannual “Humans vs. Zombies” event.The league also said it has received no complaints from the university regarding vandalism, trespassing or students mistaking the group’s harmless “blasters” as deadly weapons.

Students want representation in today's intelligent design meeting

Some students are asking for their voice to be heard while legislators meet with university representatives today to discuss Ball State’s stance on teaching intelligent design. Jesse Sallee, a junior advertising major, said even though students may not know as much about the particulars of course content or academic freedom, they still need a voice in the debate.

SOFTBALL: New coach brings laid-back personality

When Ball State hired Tyra Perry, she had a luxury most new coaches don’t have — inheriting a team that finished 20 games above .500. Perry was named the eighth head coach in Ball State’s history when she took over for Craig Nicholson.

Muncie mayor tweets, 'FEMA should be ashamed' following aid denial

Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler took to Twitter this evening to show his disappointment that the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Indiana’s petition for federal aid. “FEMA SHOULD BE ASHAMED,” he tweeted at 5:58 p.m. Muncie requested aid for the snow shelters, plowing and emergency services used. “I’m extremely disappointed,” Tyler said to the Daily News.

CAP students renovate downtown building

The Muncie Makes Lab will have its grand opening at 5 p.m. for the First Thursday Gallery Walk. Muncie Makes, located downtown at 628 S. Walnut St., will show artwork, such as napkin sketches, from a few Ball State students from the College of Architecture and Planning.

For years now, the Ball State men’s volleyball team has found success through blocking and digging but not attacking. Ball State leads the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association in both blocks and digs per set, establishing an identity that forces opponents into mistakes. The mindset starts with head coach Joel Walton and filters down to his team.
