Students take a stand for 27 hours against modern slavery

Students from Ball State's chapter of the International Justice Mission are standing for 27 hours at the Scramble Light from noon on Thursday to 3 p.m. on Friday to raise awareness of modern day slavery. In the event's second year, students from IJM will be joined by other student groups including University Singers, the Latino Student Union, and players from the football team.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon drops pledging process

Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity will no longer require new members to go through a pledging process. The change in policy, called the True Gentleman Experience, comes after a Bloomberg News article named Sigma Alpha Epsilon, an organization with more than 240 chapters and 14,000 collegiate members nationwide, the “deadliest U.S. fraternity.”

Pi Kappa Phi push for more inclusive vocabulary

Members of Pi Kappa Phi are biking at the Scramble Light for 24 hours from noon to noon Friday to raise awareness and money for people with disabilities. Students can ride the stationary bikes for themselves if they donate any amount.

UPD will be prepared for Mardi Gras

University Police Department say it will be prepared for Mardi Gras, though there will be no extra officers on duty tonight. Gene Burton, chief of police, said UPD would do everything in its power to keep Ball State and the surrounding area safe. “There are no worries,” he said.
