Ball State police arrest skateboarder

Ball State University police arrested a student on suspicion of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct Tuesday after an officer said he warned the man to stop skateboarding, but the man ignored the order, police said. Delaware County Jail was holding Drake Turner, 21, on $3,500 bond as of Tuesday afternoon after police arrested him on the respective Class A and Class B misdemeanor charges.

The Ball State University softball team is hoping its opening home game tonight against Valparaiso University is one of record-setting proportions. Sophomore interior design major Jennifer Eakins walked in the Indianapolis St. Patrick's Day Parade as a representative of the Indianapolis 500 Festival Tuesday. She passed out candy to children lining the streets, watched the crowd celebrate St. Patrick's Day and said she enjoyed "seeing the hype of the city.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: BSU announces ticket, fan bus prices for tourney

Even though Ball State University did not have much information to give fans Tuesday, the phones in the ticket office were "ringing like crazy." Associate Athletic Director Matt Wolfert said Ball State now has a plan to get fans tickets and travel packages for the women's basketball team's NCAA Tournament game against the University of Tennessee.

Facing a game point and with all of his starters sitting on the bench against a Division III team, coach Joel Walton calmly walked toward the referee and called timeout. During the timeout, though, the coach was not thinking about what starter to put back in the match with the Ball State University men's volleyball team leading by two games.

Members of the Economic Roundtable Forecast determined Wednesday that this recession is not as bad as the last, but resulting inflation could prove more damaging in the long term. The group of nearly 30 members has met annually for the last 15 years. It includes Ball State University faculty and local nonprofit and commercial business leaders.

More than 20 people gathered in the Atrium on Wednesday evening to see a mobile art gallery display five performance art pieces. Hannah Barnes, faculty mentor for the Fine Arts League, said she invited Columbus, Ohio, artist Dina Sherman's IMA Gallery to Ball State University to perform the Soap Box Lecture Series.

BASEBALL: Irish down Cards

Irish eyes smiled on the University of Notre Dame baseball team on St. Patrick's Day against Ball State University. The Fighting Irish (11-5) won 5-4 Tuesday to extend their winning streak against the Cardinals to four games. Three costly errors by Ball State (9-8) led to three runs for the home team, including an unearned run in the seventh and eighth innings.

BSU gets earmark

A $950,000 federal earmark will help Ball State University begin part of the final phase of the McKinley Safety Improvement Project. The funding was part of the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill President Barack Obama signed last week. Jim Lowe, Ball State's director of engineering and operations, said the money would cover the expenses to install storm drains along Riverside Avenue, which is "a phase of phase three" for the project.

Police arrest skateboarder

Ball State University police arrested a man on suspicion of resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct when the man ignored an officer's warnings to stop skateboarding today, police said. Police said the man, whose name they would not release at the arrest scene, was skateboarding on campus near the Scramble Light when an officer warned him to stop.
