Ball State alumnus Shaun Payne serves as site manager for Limberlost State Historic Site

In Geneva, Indiana, there is a home that once belonged to Indiana author Gene Stratton-Porter named Limberlost State Historic Site. Stratton-Porter’s family moved to the cabin in Geneva in 1888, and she lived there for 18 years. She wrote six of her 12 novels at this house, including “Freckles” and “A Girl of the Limberlost,” along with five of her nature books, according to the Limberlost State Historic Site.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, “domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically.”

Ball State alumnus discusses history and politics of Afghanistan

Students gathered in the Burkhardt Building Oct. 20 to attend a lecture by 2014 Ball State alumnus Qais Faqiri. The lecture, titled “Centralization of Power and the Collapse of Afghanistan,” was hosted by the Global Studies Association (GSA) and focused on the history of Afghanistan leading up to the evacuation of U.S. troops Aug. 30, as well as Faqiri’s own flight from the country Aug. 23.

The Counseling Center Self-Care Challenge includes weekly emails for a month with short activities suggested to help decrease stress among participants. At the end of each week, an email survey asks for feedback so Aubrey Driscoll, staff therapist and co-coordinator of group programming at the Ball State Counseling Center, can improve the program. College students deal with a number of things that can cause stress every day, and pressures from school are among the top reasons for stress, according to the Jed Foundation. As these responsibilities begin to build up, it can be hard for students to find ways to care for themselves.

Tech Startup Weekend comes to Muncie

Tech Startup Weekend was hosted this weekend at 115 S. Walnut St. Oct. 8 - 10. Dozens of participants, majorly Ball State students, participated in the events to learn about entrepreneurship and creating a startup company.
