Nervous anticipation pervaded the living room of a third-floor apartment on a recent Monday evening as a "girls' night in" was about to get underway. Euphemisms were whispered, spoken and eventually shouted by the end of the evening as the more than 20 women that filled the room skirted around a topic that would make most blush if discussed anywhere outside the bedroom.

Charges on hold in beating

Charges will be filed against the five Ball State University-affiliated women accused of assaulting a sixth once complete information regarding the victim's injuries is available, Muncie officials said Tuesday. Delaware County's deputy prosecuting attorney Judi Calhoun said that she has not received the entire case file and wants complete information regarding the victim Christina Elslinger's injuries before pressing charges.

SOCCER: Goalkeeper wins player of the week

After posting two more shutouts to continue her streak of not allowing a goal in Mid-American Conference play, Ball State University goalkeeper Rachael Murphy earned the MAC Soccer Player of the Week Monday. Murphy shut out Western Michigan University in a 2-0 win Sunday and Northern Illinois University Friday in a scoreless tie.

MEN'S GOLF: Cards place sixth at Belmont Invitational

After a mediocre performance in the first two rounds of the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., the Ball State men's golf team fired back with the lowest final round team score. Overall, the Cardinals finished sixth out of 12 teams, with a final team-combined score of 883.

A trail of water shoots into the air as a Ball State University student glides along the smooth lake water while effortlessly maneuvering around the buoys. This student is one of the 15 that make up the Ball State water ski team. As often as possible, members of the team head out to the Muncie Water Bowl to practice skiing for their weekend tournaments or to teach newcomers how to water ski.

After police responded to three calls for an Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity party, the last of which involved a fight and possible gun shots, the organization could face penalties from the National Pan-Hellenic Council. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Coach disappointed with decision

The promotion that started out positive for Ball State University women's basketball coach Tracy Roller now has her feeling "horrible." On the second day of Roller's campaign to sit on a scissor lift to promote the women's basketball team, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Collins told her to end it.

New Late Loop to be discussed for north end

Several businesses met with representatives from the Muncie Indiana Transit System Monday to discuss the possibility of creating a new Late Loop that would go toward the north side of the city. Mary Gaston, the MITS assistant general manager, said several merchants asked for a meeting to discuss the possibility of starting a second route.

SWIMMING AND DIVING: Cards successful in first dual meet of year

In the first three years of her collegiate career, Valerie McGowan won zero events. In the first dual meet of her senior year, the diver won two events. McGowan won the women's one-meter dive and the three-meter dive for the Ball State University swimming and diving team against Eastern Michigan University Friday.

Ball State athletics put on probation

The NCAA placed the Ball State University athletics department on two years probation Tuesday for infractions of multiple athletics teams. In addition to two years probation for the athletics department, the softball team lost two hours of practice a week from the normal 20 hours, the football team lost three of 85 scholarships and the men's tennis team lost 400 dollars of a scholarship, according to a press release from the Ball State athletics department.

BSU releases crime report

The numbers of reported burglaries and forcible sex offenses on Ball State University's campus have significantly increased, according to university officials. According to the Crime Statistics and Annual Security Report, which Ball State released Friday, the number of reported sex offenses on Ball State University's campus increased to 11 in 2006 after one incident was reported in 2005 and five were reported in 2004.

SOCCER: Cardinals extend school record streak

With the end of Sunday's game, the Ball State University soccer team passed the midway point of the Mid-American Conference season without allowing a goal against a conference opponent this season. The Cardinals (8-4-1, 5-0-1 MAC) defeated Western Michigan University (2-9-2, 0-5-1 MAC) 2-0 to extend their shutout streak to seven games, including six in the MAC.

Company to present on environmental issues

A shoe manufacturing company called Keen will show students a sustainability film presentation and will have a representative from Students for a Sustainable Campus speak at 6:30 p.m. in AJ 175. President of SSC Naida Roumie said Jesse Miller from SSC would speak about the club's stance on sustainability, or environmental issues.

School children will take a field trip from inside the comforts of their classrooms and witness Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park because of a Ball State University electronic field trip. Interim director Jeff Mohl said grant money completely funded the electronic field trip.
