Fans choiceMiQuale Lewis Receiving 19 votes and 63 percent of the popular vote, running back MiQuale Lewis is this week's Fan Choice player of the week. Lewis had 112 rushing yards and a touchdown in the football team's 24-7 win against Western Kentucky University on Saturday.

FIELD HOCKEY: MAC's worsts square off

For much of the season, the struggle for the Ball State University field hockey team has been playing a complete 70-minute game. That might not even be enough Sunday when the Cardinals play Missouri State University in their final home game of the season. Despite coming back from a two-goal deficit, the Cardinals lost 3-2 in overtime when they visited Springfield, Mo.

UPDATE: Newell named to Preseason All-MAC team

After leading the Ball State University men's basketball team in scoring last season, guard Anthony Newell is still reaping the benefits in the preseason. Newell was named to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference team Wednesday morning. Despite missing a majority of the non-conference games last season because of an ankle injury, the senior guard averaged a team-high 16.

Candidate announces reform act

Democratic House of Representatives candidate Barry Welsh announced a new college affordability plan Tuesday night without even being in the room. Welsh's campaign manager, Mike White, introduced the plan in front of a room of less than 20 Ball State University students and five other Democrat politicians at the University Democrat's political forum.

Bikers: Campus not so safe on McKinley Ave.

Aaron Cunanan was riding his bike north on McKinley Avenue on Friday when he stopped for a red light at the Scramble Light. When the light turned green he waited for the car in the middle of the intersection to continue through to start pedaling again. To his surprise, another car piggy backed through the red light and slammed into him.

WASHINGTON - Barack Obama and John McCain will both pursue the image of a strong leader in troublesome economic times as they meet Wednesday night for their third and final presidential debate. Their face-off comes as Obama widens his lead in typically Democratic states and campaigns with an air of optimism about his prospects, while McCain seeks a way to gain ground and finds himself defending traditionally Republican states with less than three weeks left in the race.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals look to impress fans back at home

The Ball State University women's volleyball team is welcoming a change of two home matches this weekend when it plays host to Kent State University and Ohio University. Two weekends ago, the Cardinals traveled to the University of Toledo and the distant University at Buffalo, while last weekend the squad played at Northern Illinois University before being delayed by a car accident on its way to Western Michigan University.

The most important thing to author Bich Min Nguyen about reading and writing is the compassion and understanding that can be gained from seeking out different perspectives. Nguyen presented her first memoir "Stealing Buddha's Dinner" to dozens of people Tuesday evening in Bracken Library.

SPORTS FOR THOUGHT: Cards offense must commit to running game

Despite the best personnel in the Mid-American Conference, the last two weeks have been about as painful for Ball State University's offense as a swift kick to the groin. The Cardinals have combined for 10 points in their past two first halves, the fewest in consecutive first halves during offensive coordinator Stan Parrish's tenure with the program.

Ball State University students can meet Democrat candidates for election races at the local, state and national levels at a forum tonight. The event, hosted by the University Democrats, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Letterman Building Room 125. Circuit court judge candidates Ralu Wolf, Tom Cannon and Diane Frye will attend along with Rep.

Cards to participate in Think Pink Initiative

For the first time this school year, the Ball State University athletics department wants fans not to wear the school's red and white colors. The Cardinals announced Monday they will partake in the Think Pink Initiative to raise breast cancer awareness this weekend and are requesting fans wear pink at this weekend's home games.

Campus Crime Stats released

Alcohol consumption and drug use may be a larger problem on Ball State University's campus than in previous years, according to the Campus Crime Statistics released Monday. The University Police Department released the results in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure Act which requires all colleges and universities to file an annual crime report.

North Hall worker injured at work site

A construction worker was injured Monday while working on the structure of North Hall. Tony Proudfoot, associate vice president for marketing and communications, said the injury resulted from a beam that fell on the man, who was taken to Ball Memorial Hospital.

Fagbug promotes tolerance in Muncie, across U.S.

The Fagbug visited Ball State University last week as part of Erin Davies' quest to spread awareness across the country. On April 18, 2007, Davies found her car vandalized with the words "U R Gay" and "fAg" spray painted on her driver-side window and hood in response to her rainbow bumper sticker.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: 'A cute little family'

Ball State University women's volleyball assistant coach Hugh Hernesman vaguely remembers the first date with his wife, Stephanie. "It was probably your standard dinner, movie," Hugh Hernesman said. "First impressions - I think I was really nervous." Stephanie, a volunteer assistant coach with the team, remembers things more clearly.
