Chili cook-off raises money for charity

Chili and music come together at Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's annual chili cook-off. The event is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Hargreaves Music Building's Coke Lobby and is open to everyone. Fraternity Historian Jimmy Wingett said his committee wants to make the event larger than it has ever been.

Indiana doesn't 'Ditch Mitch'

INDIANAPOLIS - Green and white balloons fell onto the stage where incumbent Gov. Mitch Daniels stood as a crowd of more than 600 supporters lifted cheers and chants of "My Man Mitch." Standing in the crowd, the only thing Daniels' supporter Rema Duncan, 24, could do was smile.

Youth voting provides boost to Obama

INDIANAPOLIS-Indianapolis native Andy Hiodeve has faith in the youth vote. She said at 11 p.m. Tuesday she knew the youth would come through to elect Barack Obama as the next president. Minutes later, she was a prophet. CNN and MSNBC predicted Obama the 44th president.

Delaware County Republicans react to election results

A crowd of more than 200 spectators gathered in Damon's Grill Tuesday night with their attention focused on four big-screen televisions tuned to CNN. The scene reflected a Superbowl atmosphere more than an election night with comfort food, alcoholic beverages and noisy cheering filling the restaurant.

Students gather to watch results

Standing in the Park Hall multipurpose room, freshman Kyree Shockley couldn't contain her emotion as she watched ABC news project Barack Obama as the president-elect Tuesday night. Despite being surrounded by a largely pro-Obama crowd at the election watch party, Shockley was still surprised by the election's final outcome.

RHA to discuss changes to meal plans

The Residence Hall Association's General Assembly will meet today to determine the future of Ball State students' meal plans. RHA will be addressing the possible change from the meal count system currently enacted to a declining balance system, David Hentz, director of RHA coordination and publications relations said.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards return to Worthen Arena

The Ball State University women's volleyball team starts a four-match home stand tonight before beginning the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Nov. 18. The Cardinals (11-16, 6-6 MAC) are hoping to use the home matches not only to rest but to improve on their 2-7 record at Worthen Arena this season.

THE BOGEYMAN: Why I will vote for Barack Obama today and why everyone else should do it, too

What's in a name? Not much, but, every once in a while, you can tell something about a person. "Barack Hussein Obama." In some circles, you will see Sen. Obama's name written as "B. Hussein Obama," presumably to inspire fear and xenophobic loathing at the prospect of someone so un-American getting into office, as well as to subtly hint at what must be connections between the senator and terrorist, Arab, un-American factions.

FOOTBALL: Love makes first public apperance since injury

Dante Love opened his life to the media Tuesday afternoon in his first public appearance since suffering a career-ending cervical spin fraction Sept. 20, at Indiana University. He talked to approximately 30 media members about his frustrations with not being able to play football anymore, his struggles with physical therapy and his plans for the future.

No increase in holiday arrests

Despite local law enforcement agencies increasing the number of officers on patrol during Halloween weekend, there were no reported increases in arrests. Gene Burton, Ball State University's director of public safety, said the arrest numbers were normal for any weekend.

Double duty

Erica Frazee received her first horse when she was about one year old and then another at age two. "If the nursing doesn't take over my schedule, I hope to do it the rest of my college career," she said. "It's really fun." Frazee's commitments vary from attending Bible study to equestrian team meetings to a 17 credit-hour workload.
