Fire Up DWNTWN is back in Muncie Aug 2, with a strong showing of community excitement, new attractions and expanded vendor offerings.
“The energy this year has been incredible—there is a buzz of excitement from both the community and our vendors,” said Vicki Veach, Executive Director of Muncie Downtown Development. “Many local businesses and artisans responded early to secure spots, volunteer spots are filled and social media engagement is high. People are genuinely excited to experience all the event has to offer.”
This year’s festival includes new features such as a Cloudhopper, four 20-foot RC hot air balloons, and three special shape balloons: Boo the Ghost, Peanut the 100-foot upside down elephant and Ivo the Blue Monster. Organizers also expanded the vendor footprint to include more artisans, Muncie Makers Market participants and entrepreneurs.
“Fire Up DWNTWN brings thousands of people into the heart of the city, which directly boosts foot traffic and sales for local shops, restaurants, and small vendors,” Veach said. “It also builds a strong sense of community pride and identity.”
Along with balloon displays and expanded vendors, the event features live music stages, designated family zones, and special deals from downtown businesses.
“Personally, I’m most excited about seeing the community come together in one space—families, students, business owners, artists—all sharing the same excitement and pride for Muncie,” Veach said. “There’s magic in watching everyone come together to bring downtown alive with lights, music, unique attractions and thousands of people enjoying their city.”
