Amplify slate bid farewell to Student Government Association (SGA) as a new slate takes the reins.
Ball State’s SGA swore in its new leaders from the Elevate slate today, beginning the new term of leadership for the coming year.
The Amplify slate, led by former President Isaac Mitchell, gave their final remarks to the senate and wished the new slate well for the coming term. Mitchell and his slate also reflected on the last year of SGA and noted the successes of their platform.
“I will say, with our one goal of amplifying students voice, I think we accomplished that. We did successfully listen, talk and advocate,” Mitchell said. “If we had another year, I'm positive we still would not do everything that we wanted to do.”
Mitchell’s slate bid emotional farewells to their positions and their fellow SGA members. Former Vice President Matt Hinkleman had one particularly lighthearted anecdote to share about his working relationship with Mitchell.
“The first time I met Isaac, I thought he was weird,” Hinkleman said. “That opinion has not changed.”
Before the meeting’s conclusion, Aiden Medellin was officially sworn in as president of SGA, and the rest of Elevate was welcomed by each of the previous holders of their respective positions.
Elevate won in a runoff election last month, defeating United in the first elections and later Empower in the runoff. Medellin said he and his slate hope to change Ball State by accomplishing their platform points and beyond in the coming year.
Medellin thanked his Elevate campaign team for their work in winning the election, his teachers and his family, calling his mother and his family his “biggest supporters”.
“You truly have proven to me every day that is it's never too late,” Medellin said of his mother. “And that nothing is or ever will be impossible, as long as you truly believe you can accomplish it.”
