Ball State softball opened up its season at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama on Feb. 12. The team took on two top-25 teams and walked away with a 2-3 weekend record. Standout performances came from junior outfielder/infielder Rachel Houck who batted .417 and senior pitcher Nicole Steinbach who strung together two complete games where she allowed only three cumulative runs.
Men's volleyball picked up its sixth straight victory after sweeping Barton at Worthen Arena. This victory followed a sweep against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne which secured the Cardinals the top spot in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association rankings.
Track and field travelled to Allendale, Mich. where to compete in the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. The team finished with 11 career best performances, along with several top-5 finishes throughout the two day event.
The women's golf team's ninth place performance at the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagle Invite was lead by junior Allison Lindley who finished tied for sixth overall (225). Close behind her was junior Kelsey Sear who tied for 11th place in the invite with a score of 227.
Saturday, February 13
There was only one senior celebrating senior day for the men's swim and dive team on Saturday as the Cardinals lost its final season meet against Ohio, 127-171. Senior Cole Smith finished his final season meet at Lewellen Pool as well.
Women's tennis began its weekend against Southern Illinois after dropping the meet 4-3. The loss dropped the Cardinal's record to 3-2 on the spring season.
Senior guard Nathalie Fontaine became the second player in Ball State women's basketball to score 2,000 points - 91 short of the record. Despite the victory, the team dropped its second straight game against Kent State, 59-50.
Ball State men's basketball took a victory over Central Michigan on the road to improve to 16-9 overall and 7-5 in the Mid-American Conference. Senior forward Bo Calhoun led the way with 22 points and 14 rebounds during the victory. Ball State is tied with Toledo for first place in the MAC West Division.
Men's tennis dropped to 2-4 on the season after dropping a 5-2 road loss against Xavier. Lucas Anderson and Andrew Stutz continued their winning ways after beating an Xavier team double 6-1.
Sunday, February 14
Four women's swimmers competed at the Ohio State Winter Invitational at Columbus, Ohio. The team began the meet with a second place finish in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 1:51.87.
Women's tennis came back strong against Western Kentucky with a 5-2 victory, improving the team's record to 4-2 in the spring.
Gymnastics participated in the "Think Pink" quad meet against Kentucky, Kent State and Lindenwood at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals finished third in the meet with a score of 194.375. Kentucky finished in first (195.800), second place went to Kent State (194.625) and last place went to Lindenwood (190.950).
