Police: Man steals $128,000 from woman he met online

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — A Fort Wayne man is accused of stealing more than $128,000 from an Indianapolis woman he met online while portraying himself as a sports agent.

Indiana State Police said Tuesday that Carnelle Rutledge was arrested Aug. 22 near his Fort Wayne home on charges filed in Marion County. Police say he's charged with corrupt business influence and theft, both felonies.

According to police, Rutledge met the woman through the online dating website Plenty of Fish and stole the money from her between September and December 2011. Police say Rutledge claimed the money was used for business involving high-profile athletes, and told the woman she would be repaid.

State Police say the athletes Rutledge named have no connection to him.

It wasn't immediately clear if Rutledge has an attorney.
