The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team fell to 0-2 on the season, as it was defeated by Michigan State 182-118.

Despite failing to win the dual meet, Ball State was still able to post wins in five individual events, as well as two relays.

For the second straight meet, the Cardinals opened with a victory
in the 200-medley relay. Seniors Mallory Miles, Bridgette Ruehl
and Haley Richter teamed up with junior Carlena Magley to give
Ball State the early lead with a first place time of 1:45.71.

Ruehl had another productive meet, as she helped Ball State
achieve individual victories in the 100-yard and 200-yard
breaststroke with times of 1:03.82 and 2:20.49.

The Cardinals’ other three individual wins came courtesy of
Richter winning the 100 freestyle (51:66), senior Emily Wisolek
taking the 200 backstroke with a finish of 2:09.24, and fellow
senior Cheyanne Jackson winning the 500 freestyle with a final
time of 5:11.10.

Freshman Audrey Rodawig joined Magley, Wisolek and Richter to help
Ball State not only end the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle
relay, but in the process finish with a season-best time of
3:31.85.

Though Ball State was not able to win in either the 1M or 3M
diving competitions, several Cardinals were able to improve their
season-high marks.

Sophomore Madie Zirzow finished fourth in the 1M dive with a
223.35, while freshman Quinn Bixler and Brittany Penn received
season-best scores in the 3M competition with marks of 206.09 and
207.60.

The Cardinals will not have long to dwell on the loss, as the team
will travel to Ohio and compete against conference opponent Toledo
at 1 p.m. Saturday.
