ANDERSON, Ind. — A central Indiana jury has awarded $50,000 in damages to a woman found to be the victim of extreme bullying in high school.
The Herald-Bulletin reports the six-person Madison Circuit Court jury decided in favor of the woman and her family in a civil trial after they brought a tort claim against the South Madison Community School Corp.
Court documents say the then 15-year-old student arrived at Pendleton Heights High School in 2008 to find altered, sexually suggestive photos of her posted around the school northeast of Indianapolis.
The woman and her family claimed schools official were negligent in their handling of the matter and didn’t offer proper counseling to the victim.
The jury decided on damages Tuesday after the plaintiffs sought $80,000 and the defense countered with $40,000.
