Although I came to an English speaking country, there are many differences in the language that I've had to pick up on since I've been here. In fact, I'm still learning some of the words and phrases. All of my seven flatmates are British so we have started a list of British English to American English lingo. The list is currently on its third page and it hangs on our fridge. I hope you enjoy our list so far as much as I have enjoyed learning new words!
The British-American lingo list that graces our fridge
pavement / sidewalk
trousers / pants
bum bag / fanny pack
999 / 911
ladybird / ladybug
aeroplane / airplane
post / mail
This is just a start! There are countless words that are spelled differently as well. Luckily my computer is on "British" so it makes sure everything is spelled correctly according to spelling customs here. Which word difference surprised you the most?
