It was a busy week at Ball State. Between performances of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Beauty and the Beast," as well as a lecture presented by Bob Dotson, there was no shortage of material for this blog. Even so, I decided that I would write this week's blog about "Artistry is Wisdom," the dance department's senior choreography showcase.
The program highlighted the talents of eight senior dance majors: Justin Atienza-Spaeth, Stephanie Buller, Cayla Clark, Katie DeWitte, Molly Gower, Shannon Hanley, Sarah Ponto, Anna Scharer and Erin Spahr. Each choreographer has been working on his or her piece since the beginning of the semester.
"Artistry is Wisdom," was an outstanding display of the talent of the choreographers and performers.
The showcase demonstrated the athleticism and grace of all of the dancers. The piece choreographed by Atienza-Spaeth really caught my eye. The performers climbed on each other and moved as a group by sharing their weight. This unique display of teamwork demonstrated an impressive level of collaboration between each of the dancers and the choreographer. The sense of teamwork was evident throughout the showcase.
Beyond providing a unique experience for the audience, the show also provided a great experience for dance department students.
"I'm grateful for this opportunity to grow as a dancer and develop a bond with the other dancers," Ellert said.

- hursday: Amazing Taste cultural experience from 4 to 8 p.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center
- Saturday: A Midsummer Night's Dream at 7:30 p.m. at University Theatre
