DeKalb, Ill. – An unlikely onside kick allowed Ball State University to stay close with Northern Illinois University headed into halftime. Northern Illinois leads the game 16-13.
The Huskies tried an onside kick late in the first quarter. It went out of bounds and the Cardinals turned the short field to a 38-yard field goal by Ian McGarvey. The junior added a 30-yarder later in the quarter to bring Ball State within three points.
Safety Alex Knipp intercepted his first pass of the season near the end of the half.
