Homecoming royalty voting on par with previous years

Chanel Richards, publicity spokeswoman for the Homecoming Steering Committee, said 3,638 students participated in royalty voting this year.

Up to three votes could be cast for both the student king and student queen candidates, amounting to 24,822 total votes, she said.

With more than 20,000 people on campus, Richards said she's not surprised so few people voted.

"People seem to only vote if they know people who are on the royalty," she said. "The number of people who vote really depends on who is nominated."

Voting for Homecoming royalty began Sept. 8 and ended Wednesday.

There were 36 student king candidates and 40 student queen candidates from different organizations, according to a Sept. 8 article in the Daily News.

The top 10 student king and queen candidates were announced at the Royalty Fashion Show on Wednesday.
