MEN'S GOLF: 2 Cards advance to tourney's round of 8

The Indiana Golf Association Match Play Championship round of 32 includes seven Ball State men's golfers.

The event, held at The Trophy Club in Lebanon, Ind., started with a field of 104 golfers and was slimmed down to 32 Tuesday. Of the final 32 golfers remaining in the field, Ball State's Ross Cosat, Joe Gasser, Zac Henderson, Eric Skillman, Eric Steger, Alex Stinson and Zac Treash are included.

Steger shot for a one under par 70, while Cosat, Gasser, Skillman and Stinson all recorded scores of two over par 73. Henderson and Treash shot a 74 and 75, respectively to round out the seven Ball State golfers to reach the match play round that begins play today.

In the first two rounds of the match play event at The Trophy Club, Cosat and Steger both advanced into the round of eight. Cosat won after 20 holes in the first round and won 2-1 in the second round to advance. Steger won 6-5 in the first round and 4-3 in the second round to join his teammate in the round of eight.

Gasser, Skillman, Stinson, Henderson and Treash were all defeated in the first round of the match play. The second day of rounds begins tomorrow morning, which will cut the field down to two golfers.
