After a busy last meeting, the Ball State University Student Government Association had a relaxed yet eventful meeting Wednesday.
Below is a breakdown of some of the issues discussed:
Residence Halls: Residence Hall Director Mitch Isaacs spoke with senators about signups for next year's resident assistant and multicultural adviser positions. Students interested in those positions and who want more information should visit bsu.edu/housing/studentemployme, he said.
Athletics: Basketball Coaches Tracy Roller and Billy Taylor came and encouraged students to get excited about the women's and men's upcoming seasons.
Budget: SGA Treasurer Zac Davis updated senators on the organization's budget. The 2007-08 budget is about $5,000 more than the 2006-07 budget, he said, because money was added under the co-sponsorship category for the end-of-the year Late Nite Carnival.
Community and Environmental Affairs Committee: Chairman Kyle Johnson reminded senators that the SGA Campus Clean-up would be 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants will meet in the Art and Journalism Building Room 289. A little more than 60 people have signed up so far, but Johnson said 75 spots are available and more could be added if necessary. To sign up for the event, visit the Student Voluntary Services Web site at bsu.edu/svs.
Legislation: Another bill was introduced to the senators for a question and answer session. The bill SR-10-07 is a resolution suggesting e-mail reminders be sent to students at least five days prior to the date for an academic deadline. Some of the reminders would include dates coming up for course request, course withdrawal periods, registration and applying for graduation. Senators will vote at Wednesday's meeting on the legislation.
Amendments: Two amendments to the SGA bylaws were proposed. One amendment would recognize and implement the new Multicultural Council. The other would add the responsibility of advising the Multicultural Council to the Secretary of Diversity's position. Senators will vote on the amendments at Wednesday's meeting.
