FIELD HOCKEY: Three Cards earn all-MAC honors

Hours after Ball State University's season ended with a 1-0 defeat to Central Michigan University at the Mid-American Conference tournament, three Cardinals were given the distinction of a spot on the All-MAC team.

Senior midfielder Lauren Cruz and sophomore forward Brooke MacGillivary were named to the all-conference first team while senior defender Nicole Humphreys gained a spot on the second team.

Cruz's honor marked the third straight year she has earned a spot on the All-MAC team, having been named to the second team in 2005 and 2006. Cruz ranked third in the MAC in assists, tallying five.

MacGillivary, who finished second in the MAC in goals in 2007 with 15, was named to the first team in her first year as a starter, beating out Ohio University's Torrie Albini, who finished first in the league in that category.

Humphreys, a four-year starter at Ball State who started 73 of 74 games in her career, received all-league honors for the first time. She ranked second in the MAC in 2007 with four defensive saves.
