The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety met Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the city's noise ordinance.
Board president Elizabeth DeVoe said the board made no official decisions during the meeting, but it is considering whether to create tighter restrictions on noise ordinance exemptions.
Noise ordinance exemptions allow people to have outdoor events with no noise control until 1 a.m., DeVoe said. The board wants to place restrictions on noise levels for exemptions, DeVoe said.
"We listened to everybody," she said. "What everyone is saying is 'don't make it so harsh we ruin everything,' but we still need to think of the neighbors. There's no answer at this point."
DeVoe said she does not want the laws to become so strict they will prevent Ball State from having events such as After Glow.
"[Ball State] has these parties to not get binge drinking, and I'm all for that," she said. "I'd like to go softly on this policy. We're not going to stop giving out noise exemptions."
