Fraternity holds 'Meet and Greet'

Students, faculty participate in new scavenger hunt event

Ball State University students participated in a scavenger hunt during a fraternity's social event.

Psi Chi, an honorary psychology fraternity, held a "Meet and Greet" Tuesday, giving students and faculty a chance to interact with one another outside of a classroom setting.

Psi Chi's President, Riley Steinmetz, said the fraternity had these events in the past, but the scavenger hunt was a new addition this year. The meeting was not held as part of recruitment so anyone was invited to attend, she said.

"We sponsor this meeting to give students the chance to meet the psychology department and get comfortable with the professors," Steinmetz said. "The food and scavenger hunt that we have this year is to make it more comfortable and easier for the students to meet the professors."

Some students such as Ashley Baker, a senior psychology and sociology major, said they attended because of the chance to meet professors.

"This really lets us get to know our faculty better and lets us establish closer bonds with the professors," Baker said. "This can become useful when it comes to letters of recommendation and other things."

The faculty also found the meeting a benefit for students.

"I remember how I enjoyed talking to my professors when I was in school, and that's really why I'm here," psychology professor Lambert Deckers said. "If students know their professor, it makes the learning experience more personable."
