Officer crashes car into light pole

A City of Muncie police car sped around a corner, hit a light pole and skidded across the curb around 1 a.m. Tuesday in front of LaFollette Complex, according to eyewitness accounts.

Freshman exercise major Ryan Lee said he was in his room when he heard the screech and looked out his window.

"It was weird to see that a cop did it," Lee said. "It was fishtailing and over-compensated."

Witnesses said there were girls in the car whom the officer told to get out and leave the area.

The car's driver, Officer Jason Lyons, initially refused to comment on the situation, but said there were no girls in the car.

After an approximate 50-person group kept asking him what happened and why he lied that no girls were in his car, he said he was upset. He said to the group that he spilled his pop, lost control and hit the curb.
