The three Ball State football captains for the 2007 season will be senior linebacker Cortlan Booker, fifth-year senior strong safety Chris Allen and junior center Dan Gerberry, coach Brady Hoke announced Monday.
Booker started all 12 games last season, recording 64 tackles and leading the team with 14 tackles for loss and five sacks. The linebacker picked up Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honors after a 30-6 win against Kent State. He was also selected to the All-MAC Second Team.
Allen played in all 12 games as a junior and started against Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan universities. Allen ranked tenth on the team last year with 29 tackles and forced a fumble. He will replace last year's leading tackler, Erik Keys, at the strong safety position.
Gerberry started all 12 games at center as a sophomore and was responsible for protecting quarterbacks Nate Davis and Joey Lynch. The Cardinals ranked first in the MAC with 259.3 passing yards per game. Ball State also recorded a school record 3,112 passing yards and 27 passing touchdowns.
