Ball State University students who park their vehicles in commuter lots might need to look for an alternative this week.
Nancy Wray, Parking Services office manager, said parking services has received several complaints about a lack of available parking spots on campus.
Parking services told students who park in the Scheumann Stadium lot to move their vehicles before Monday to clear room for the stadium's dedication Tuesday, Wray said.
"[Students] were upset they had to look for a while," she said. "That's just going to happen when you close down a resource that houses a lot of vehicles."
The stadium lot will not reopen to students until after Thursday's football game, Wray said.
Students were told to move their vehicles to other available lots on campus, she said.
"It's pretty jammed up on campus, but the stadium overflow lot has been left open, so there are lots and lots of spaces open there," she said.
Wray said parking services expected students to move their vehicles to the overflow lot near the baseball diamonds, but most of them moved to commuter and residence lots closer to campus.
"I'm sure we'll revisit the whole situation, but I know we have another mid-week home football game coming up in November," she said.
Freshman Maia Kanpol, who parks at the stadium lot, said she was never told to park her vehicle near the baseball diamonds.
"I was told to go to one of the blue or green lots," she said. "I only heard about it through word-of-mouth."
Junior Haley Palmieri, who has a commuter parking pass, said she parked at a meter after spending almost 30 minutes searching for a parking spot. The meter expired, causing her to receive a parking ticket, she said.
"All Parking Services has had to say is we can park near the baseball field," she said. "We pay good money. Why should I park there when people who are supposed to park there don't."
Junior Erika Brannon said she was late for a class because she was searching for a parking spot.
"I tried to park behind the Student Center and all of [the north commuter lot] was full," she said.
Wray said students who cannot find parking spots can park their vehicles in the baseball diamond lot until 9 p.m. today or the top level of the Student Center parking garage.
