Dear Editor,
It has come to our attention that our school's mascot is not available at all events hosted by organizations from Ball Sate. Being that the mascot represents the school just as much as the student organizations do, it is our opinion that every group should have full access to him (or her). In many situations, the BSU Democrats and the Ball State College Republicans stand on opposite sides of the aisle on issues throughout campus. However, every now and then, we agree on something -- this is that something.
The BSU Democrats and College Republicans have both hosted many events throughout the course of this past school year, all of which would have benefited greatly from the presence of Charlie Cardinal. The voter registration drive both of our organizations put on last semester in which over 800 people were registered to vote is just one example where Ball State would have benefited from having Charlie present.
All groups on campus (from fraternities and sororities to RHA and the newly elected SGA board) should be encouraged to tell our athletic department to support school spirit and let Charlie attend campus events. Activities across campus will be more lively, fun and energetic. Furthermore, Ball State will show its true commitment to the organizations to which it lends its name. In a time when his students, fans and friends alike need him the most, give Charlie the key to his cage, and let him come and support those of us who request his services.
Chris Adamo, President Ball State College Republicans
Jacob Clere, President University Democrats
