DWNTWN Muncie hosts First Thursday event June 5

Year-round, "First Thursdays" take place in Downtown Muncie. For the month of June, the event was called the "Brink of Summer ArtsWalk" and showcased a multitude of vendors for visitors.

“This event has a lot of things going on today,” Executive Director of DWNTWN Vicki Veach said. She has worked with the Muncie Downtown department for 14 years. “There’s art galleries, merchants and different restaurants that do all sorts of things every first thursday.” 

This year, they added a new addition to the ArtsWalk: steamroller printing. Artists carved into big pieces of wood, rolled ink onto them and then transferred the image onto pieces of paper.  

Live music, vendors who have crafted items to sell (YART), food trucks and different art galleries were displayed throughout town for locals to view.  

One of the business vendors was Wise Country Market. Owner Leesa Wise has been in business for 35 years, and opens her shop seasonally, selling plants and flowers for people to buy and plant in their own gardens located on 1700 N. Walnut St.  

“We like supporting downtown because we live in this area,” Wise said. “We work here, our customers are all here and we just appreciate them for everything that they help us with. We want to help our community. "

Veach said some important dates to look forward to include Aug. 2, where DWNTWN Muncie will host its annual "Fire-Up-Muncie event." She also mentioned that for anyone who missed today's art walk, another larger arts walk will be taking place Oct. 2.
