TRACK Cardinal finishes 24th in heptathlon

Ball State women's track and field member Jennifer McCoy placed 24th in the heptathlon at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Austin, Texas this weekend.

She finished with a total score of 4,798 points, while freshman Jacquelyn Johnson of Arizona State won the 28-competitor event with 5,807 points.

Her best finish came in the shot put when she threw a distance of 37 feet, 3 inches for a 10th place finish. She also did well in the javelin, placing 11th with a throw of 112 feet, 10 inches.

In other events, she finished 16th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14:34, 22nd in long jump with 17 feet, 4 inches and 24th in high jump with a height of 5 feet, 1 1/4 inches, 200-meter dash with a time of 26:48 and 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.05.
