WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING: Team improves to 5-4 after victory over Musketeers

Six Cards win events; Jenna Arnold, Kait Martin take two

The Ball State women's swim team swam their way to an easyvictory over the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday, taking11 of 14events in a 149-73 route.

Six individual swimmers won an event, and two, Jenna Arnold (100and 200 free) and Kait Martin (100 and 200 back), won two. JoeyDuncan (1000 free), Amber Arnold (200 fly), Karla Bailey (50 free),Sarah King (100 free), Michelle Braden (200 breast), and DanielleFisher (500 free) won their respective events. The 200 free relayof Fisher, Nora Lucas, Michelle Arakgi, and Mary Brinkoetter, alsowon.

Coach Laura Seibold-Caudill said she was excited to see thewin.

"If you compare our times from previous meets, we swam reallywell. I was real pleased," Seibold-Coaudill said. "They were prettymotivated (heading into the meet). I thought it was a really goodmeet."

The lineup was moved around for the meet to better prepare theteam for the conference championship.

"We were able to put some people in their third events,"Seibold-Coaudill said. "You've gotta change things up a little bithere and there."

Seibold-Caudill said she felt Xavier has improved.

"They're getting better and better each year," she said. "It'snot that we swam an easy opponent. We just swam really well."

Of the eleven events won, Ball State also took second place insix of them, and in one, the 100 free, the Cardinals swept the topthree spots.

Heading into Thanksgiving Break, the Cardinals are 5-4 in dualmeets, something Seibold-Caudill said she was pleased with.

"I think it's a good dual meet record to take into secondsemester," she said.

However, she couldn't help but wonder what could have been.

"I wish it was 6-3," she moaned with a smile, referring to theMichigan State meet, in which the Cardinals fell shy by just ninepoints from completing a comeback.

After a week off, the Cardinal women return to action at theAkron Invitational on Dec. 4, where they will face opponents theyhave all ready seen in Illinois State, Akron, and Xavier, amongseveral others.
