Free teddy bears, crafts and chocolate can definitely help too.

University Program Board teamed up with Creative Minds to host the second annual Valentine’s Day crafts event called "Will UPB My Valentine?"

The event was held Feb. 11 in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Ballroom. The first 100 students were able to build a stuffed animal, as well as participate in free do-it-yourself crafts, karaoke and eat sweet treats like chocolate-covered strawberries.

“We just wanted to give students something fun that they can do with their boyfriend, girlfriend or group of friends during Valentine’s week,” said Alexus Torrence, UPB perspective member.

Students started lining up an hour before the doors opened to get a ticket to stuff their own bear.

Bryce King, freshman and international business and Spanish major, was one of those students.

“I came because my girlfriend wanted to make a stuffed animal and I wasn’t about to tell her no,” King said. “It’s a good way to spend time together. This is actually going to be our first Valentine’s Day together, so we are trying to build it up by doing stuff before hand.”

So many people wanted a bear that it didn’t take long before all the bears and stuffing ran out.

Kirsten Pozorski, social and creative chair for Creative Minds, said that was no surprise.

“At our last event it was completely crazy, but we always have so much fun,” Pozorski said. “Taking time to chill out, distress and hang out with friends is what it’s all about. Everyone loves Valentine's Day and loves to craft.”

While many came to the event in couples, not everyone enjoyed the night with their significant other.

“I’m single, but I came to have a good time with my girls,” said Kylie O’Shea, freshman and accounting major. “Valentine's Day doesn’t have to be about being in a relationship or even single. For me, its about being with your friends.”
