Dear Editor, There is an ongoing issue concerning the smoking ban on Ball State's campus in the community. The view points include ideas such as it is unconstitutional and that it infringes on their rights as a citizen, to the idea that it is an addiction and how is the university supposed to enforce the ban.

MEN'S TENNIS: Three Cardinals to play at regionals

The Ball State University men's tennis team will face what coach Bill Richards said was the best of the best in the Midwest this weekend. Freshman Eduardo Pavia, junior Jose Perdomo and senior Jarrod Epkey will compete at the International Tennis Associations Midwest Regional Championships this weekend, a 37-team tournament that involves every Division-I collegiate tennis program in this part of the country.

MAC: Week Eight Preview

Ball State at Western Michigan Both Ball State and Western Michigan got rebound victories last week. The Broncos beat Northern Illinois 17-13 to rebound from a one-point loss to Akron while Ball State beat Western Kentucky 35-12 after losing to Central Michigan 58-38.

ROTC competes at Atterbury

Ball State University ROTC students will travel to Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh during Fall Break for a three-day training event called Ranger Challenge, Capt. John Dimeling said. Ranger Challenge is an annual extracurricular activity for ROTC cadets, he said.

OUR VIEW: Missing bricks

Wouldn't it have been nice for alumni visiting for Homecoming to have seen a Carmichael Circle complete with engraved bricks some of them purchased? If the area's renovation had progressed as planned, the project would be complete and the eyesore that Carmichael Circle is would be long gone.

At 2-6 in the Mid-American Conference the Ball State University women's volleyball team is at the midpoint of their MAC season. The Cardinals thought they had turned their season around with back-to-back victories against the University of Toledo and the University at Buffalo.

Dear Editor, Last week, I happened to have three unpleasant encounters with our president, Dr. Jo Ann Gora. The first meeting was during a little get-together she was hosting for the presidents of every student group on campus. My faculty adviser wanted me to meet Jo Ann and show her my tattoos, some of which are David Letterman related.

About 300 people laugh to comedian

The crowd cheered as the lights dimmed and the night's first comic was introduced. Brooke Reynolds, vice president of programs for Delta Zeta sorority, said the organization worked with Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity to co-sponsor Wednesday's comedy show in Pruis Hall.

CROSS COUNTRY: Sophomore named Runner of the Week

The Mid-American Conference named Ball State University sophomore Ali Bishel as the MAC Runner of the Week Wednesday. Bishel earned the honor for her performance at the Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute. She finished 31st and finished the six-kilometer race in 21 minutes.

In order to raise money for Indianapolis' Damien Center, students from Ball State University's Body Modification Club staple money to themselves. The students will be outside of the Arts and Journalism Building again today.

Carmichael brick project yet to begin

Outside Carmichael Hall plain, gray and white gravel covers the spot known as Carmichael Circle instead of the landscaping and brick paving that was slated to be installed this summer. More than five months have passed since the scheduled starting date of the renovation project, and Ball State University officials said the holdup was because of delays in a key ingredient.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: BSU to host fall tourney

As two of the Ball State University women's tennis players vie for national recognition, the rest of the Cardinals are playing host to other teams. Cardinal Creek Tennis Center will play host to the Ball State Fall Tournament Friday and Saturday, while sophomore Sophie Quist and senior Haly Calderwood compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional at the University of Michigan.

CAMPUS: Sue Errington to speak at series

Indiana State Democratic Senator Sue Errington will speak 7 p.m. Tuesday in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center. Errington is the second speaker in the Ball State University Student Government Association-sponsored Political Speaker Series. SGA Treasurer Zac Davis said only about 20 people attended the first speaker series with mayoral candidates James Mansfield and Sharon McShurley and most of those people were SGA representatives.

Throughout the football season, Ball State University coach Brady Hoke designates Monday as an off day so his players can rest their bodies and watch film of the upcoming opponent. However, with Western Michigan University looming in the near future, the typical quiet of Fisher Football Training Complex had a workman-like buzz Monday.

SOCCER: Leaders of MAC face off Sunday

At 5-1 in the Mid-American Conference, the University of Toledo soccer team is second in the conference behind Ball State University. The teams will play Sunday in Muncie but before the Cardinals (8-4-1, 5-0-1 MAC) turn their attention to the Rockets (10-3-1, 5-1 MAC), they have to focus on Friday's opponent, Bowling Green State University (5-8-1, 2-4 MAC).

Trivia game sign up extends

Registration for the Ball State University annual trivia game College Bowl is extended to Oct. 26 to allow more teams to sign up. Lorri Markum, office assistant for student programs, said students could register online and download a PDF form. They can bring the form and a $25 entry fee to the L.
