An audience crowds into a small, dark room murmuring and flipping through programs. In front, there is no stage, no screen - just a cozy performance area with room enough for a handful of people. This audience will not enjoy a thundering chorus or a booming accompanying band.

Fraternity puts on Sleep Out

Fraternity members spoke into a microphone and urged walkers and drivers passing by to donate money for the homeless. Ennis Adams, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity social chair, said the fraternity was putting on the 14th annual Sleep Out for the Homeless at the Scramble Light.

Racism still in Indiana, writer says

Racism is still alive in towns across America, said author James Loewen. Loewen spoke Tuesday in Pruis Hall about his most recent book "Sundown Towns" and about America's history of racism and prejudice. Loewen spoke about a high point of racism in America from 1890 to 1940 and explained historical examples of the efforts of groups of white people to drive black people out of communities.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Four players sign intent letters for BSU

Four players signed letters of intent to play for the Ball State University women's basketball team Wednesday. Jade Barber is a 6-foot-2-inch forward from Louisville, Ky. She averaged 12 points and 10.3 rebounds per game as a junior. She is rated as the fifth-best prospect in Kentucky by the Rick Bolus Report.

New Facebook add-on helps with carpools

Ball State University students can use a Facebook application to pair them with students across the nation who are traveling home for Thanksgiving break, helping them cut costs and preserve the environment. Cornell University alumnus John Zimmer said he was part of a group of recent graduates and undergraduate students who formed the "Carpool" application on Facebook.

Business Fellows students plan to use what they have learned in the classroom to help meet the needs of the Muncie YWCA. Jeannine Harrold, program director for the Career Center and project director of the Business Fellows, said the YWCA had an unmet need that required the assistance of trained people.

So shameful that one school is offering monetary incentive for its departments to drain the fun out of Thirsty Thursday. The University of Iowa is offering money to departments willing to schedule classes on Fridays, the Daily Iowan reports.

Students show experiences, architecture from world travel

Architecture students shared Monday what they learned about world cultures and architectural styles during a summer 2007 trip. Video slide shows with upbeat music illustrated the various places, people and buildings the students saw. About 33 students traveled with the College of Architecture and Planning to 25 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

The Ball State University football team became bowl eligible for the first time since 2002 with a 41-20 win against the University of Toledo Tuesday. With the score 20-20 at halftime, the Cardinals scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to pick up their sixth win of the season.

Keenan Wilson n Chief Reporter Students with safety concerns now have an outlet to voice those problems to the University Public Safety Committee, since it has included a link on its Web site for such communications. Kirk Armstrong, a graduate student and head of the committee, said officials wanted to give students a way to talk with the committee, and through them the university police and other groups that affect student safety at Ball State University.

Red and blue Central American poison dart frogs, terraced "mountains" and a waterfall await student groups and Muncie residents who step into the doors of this display of natural beauty, which was created for rainforest conservation education.
