Ball State University students and administrators will join Muncie community members to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Tuesday at a "Music of the Civil Rights Era" concert. Charles Payne, assistant provost for diversity and director of Diversity Policy Institute, said the concert, which will be at 8 p.
Charges have been filed against one of the suspects in the November break in and theft of the Theta Chi fraternity house. Ronda Defrees, investigator for the Muncie city court, said Dustin Koch was charged with conversion and trespassing, both class A misdemeanors.
Newell named MAC West Player of the Week Ball State University junior forward Anthony Newell was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week by the league office Monday. Last year, Tara Choate and her roommate agreed to compete for the crown at the Miss Ball State Scholarship Program. Then, Choate's roommate contracted mononucleosis, and she competed without her friend in the first pageant of her life, she said, becoming the first runner-up.
Hamilton County might see increased train travel because of a group of Ball State University students. Journalism instructor Richard Shoemaker said 14 students are working with the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville to increase tourism in that area.

For the past year, Ball State University women's tennis head coach Kathy Bull said her team's main goal has been improving on doubles play. "In the matches that we lost last spring, we really didn't secure the doubles point," said Bull, who is currently in her 19th year as head coach.
Almost 8,000 tickets for the International Bowl went unsold by Ball State University, a school official said. Ticket Manager Rob Richards said Ball State "used just over 2,000 tickets" for Saturday's football game against Rutgers University. The Mid-American Conference had a contract with the International Bowl in which the participating school, Ball State, was responsible for 10,000 tickets at $40 each.
