If I hear one more candidate promise to bring change, I may just give up and vote for a Libertarian or an Independent. It's getting to the point where it is almost nauseating. Huckabee is going to bring change. Hillary is going to bring change. It gets frustrating.

LAS VEGAS - The after-pageant party began when Miss Indiana Nicole Rash stood on her parents' hotel bed, surrounded by more than 50 family members and friends. Her family stood around her as the Ball State University junior fashion merchandise major named Miss America's first runner-up Saturday addressed her them during a casual, yet Champagne-filled party.

Baseball player arrested

A Ball State University baseball player could lose his status as team captain because of a recent arrest. According to Delaware County jail officials, Ball State police arrested senior Wayne Bond on charges of driving while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor, Friday morning.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Five-year drought ends with BSU win

Holding a 21-point lead with five minutes remaining in the second half of Saturday's game against Bowling Green State University, Ball State University's band burst into a chant of "We're not gonna take it, anymore." Whether it was planned or not, the timing couldn't have been any better.

BSA awards about $2,000 in scholarships at pageant

After three hours of choreographed dances, poetry readings, vocal performances and impromptu questions, the 2008 Unity Court was announced Saturday. Freshmen Veronica Beamon and David Guiden were crowned Miss Unity Queen and Mr. Unity King at the Black Student Association's Unity Scholarship Pageant.

COMMON SENSE: Cards ignite rivalry with blowout win

After five losses, four blowouts and a season of heartache, Ball State's women's basketball team turned the tables and finally blew past its arch-nemesis with a 21-point victory against Bowling Green State University on Saturday. Judging from the post-game celebration - complete with hugs, chest bumps and Kiley Jarrett heaving the ball to the rafters - the Cardinals' 68-47 win meant a lot more than a typical victory would have.

New committee to address diversity issues at Ball State

A new committee will help the Board of Trustees promote diversity and fix issues at Ball State University. Provost Terry King announced the creation of the diversity committee at the trustees meeting Friday. The university selected about 15 faculty to serve on the committee, which will be headed by Chin-Sook Pak, associate professor of Spanish, King said.

Ball State University's Board of Trustees created a diversity committee at its meeting Friday. Although the committee was only created in response to state legislation and not because of racial and diversity issues Ball State has experienced, we still think it's a good idea.

Miss Indiana finishes as first runner-up

Miss Indiana and current Ball State University student Nicole Rash finished as the first runner-up in the Miss America Competition on Saturday in Las Vegas. When Cindy Rash reflected on helping her daughter be Miss Indiana in the past year, she started to laugh. "I chuckle because it has been pretty busy," she said. The role of Miss Indiana requires traveling around the state, Cindy Rash said, and she went with Nicole when able to.

MEN'S TENNIS: Ball State recovers with win vs. IPFW

With its No. 1 and No. 2 players watching from the sidelines, the Ball State University men's tennis team recovered from a disappointing weekend with a 7-0 sweep of IPFW. Head coach Bill Richards said he sat out junior Jose Perdomo and freshman Eduardo Pavia to fulfill NCAA regulations for the number of matches allowed in a year of play.

Ball State University is not known for having school spirit. Most tailgaters are in it for the pre-game festivities and if they happen to make it to the game that's OK, but if not that's cool too. However, now is a time when we can really show school spirit and support one of our own in her efforts to make her dream come true.

Headquarters silences leader of fraternity

Delta Tau Delta International Headquarters has prohibited the president of the Ball State University chapter from discussing the expulsion or suspension of almost half of the fraternity's members. Chapter President Kyle Pfeifer could not comment on any matters involving the fraternity without permission from headquarters, he said before the Interfraternity Council meeting Thursday.

GYMNASTICS: Cards look for first home win despite losing athletes to injury

The 0-2 Ball State University gymnastics team will try to pick up its first victory in Irving Gym against preseason favorite Kent State University. The Golden Flashes were selected by the Mid-American Conference coaches to win the regular season championship after finishing in a tie for the 2007 regular season title with a 5-1 record.
